Lymestone Brewery

Lymestone Brewery is a family run micro brewery that is proud to be single handedly upholding the tradition of brewing great beer in the town of Stone.

Stone has a fascinating brewing history that extends back in time for almost 1000 years.

The Lymestone Brewery is continuing that story once by again producing quality hand-made ales in the traditional manner.

Based in a ‘brick built industrial unit’ that was once an integral part of the Bents Brewery, the all new Lymestone brewery has been built up from scratch. The old brewery which was closed in the 1970’s left no trace of its former glory; in fact the rooms used by Lymestone have been a car garage, a cycle repair shop and a den for stolen goods in the recent past!

Despite the heritage of the building, all the Lymestone equipment is of modern design and was made to measure and installed in September 2008, with brewing commencing in October 2008.

The 10 barrel brew plant has been enhanced with the installation of additional fermenting vessels enabling Brad to brew 6 times per week.

The brewery team is led by ‘Brad’ the brewer who has over 20 years experience in the brewing industry. He is supported by his wife Viv,

and by Joe who helps in the brew house and Dave who is part drayman and part office manager.  Harry and Sarah (Brad and Viv’s children) also help out in the brewery as and when they are home from University and college, and with Lol the spaniel in the office and out on deliveries the family is complete!

In 2010 the workforce was increased by over 60,000 with the introduction of 3 beehives to the Brewery roof.

The bees (bought in from Gloucestershire) managed to produce honey in 2010 that was used to produce Stone Brood – a 4.4% abv chocolate honey beer.In 2011 additional hives were added and now there are 6 hives on the roof. 2012 was a poor year for honey, so fingers are crossed for 2013. This honey beer is now available in bottle all year round and in cask during October.

The brewery produces a range of 5 permanent ales and an ever changing seasonal, tasting notes for all of which can be found on the brewery website

Lol the Spaniel completes the team!
